After getting a management degree, he spurned job offers and borrowed 100,000 rupees from his father to start Educomp Solutions, an education company, in 1994. Began by setting up computer labs in schools; expanded into developing and licensing computer-aided lessons for both public and private schools. Biggest moneymaker is Smart Class, a range of interactive, multimedia digital lessons that he licences to schools. Currently reaches 23,000 schools and 12 million students and teachers. Expanded overseas through acquisitions such as its May 2008 purchase of Learning.com, an e-learning company in the U.S.
